If you have never designed a website before, and someone tells you that you can have a glimpse at the code behind the website by clicking on View, Page Source, in your browser, you might be awestruck and think that you will never be able to do a website design of your own. The truth is, a simple website is not as complicated as it looks. Let’s dispel a few myths about this: You need programming knowledge: Of course, if you want a website with an online shopping cart and interactive features such as discussion forums, live support etc. You need to know more than if you just want a website to upload family photos or set out the basics of what your business is about. If you just want a basic Internet presence for your business, you can download a WYSIWYG website editor from the Internet and do a very nice pictures and text website, even with a contact form, without knowing a line of code. You need expensive software: This isn’t necessarily true either. The truth is that you can download a free visual website editor (there are many) from the Internet, build a fully functional website without knowing anything about programming, and then download a free FTP program so you can upload the files to the server of your web hosting provider. You will of course need a web hosting account, but if your needs are simple you can even find one of those for free nowadays. You can advertise your newly built website for free on various social media websites. There are many discussion forums where you are allowed to have a link back to your website in your signature file. There are video sites where you can make a short video about your website and upload it for free - in short there’s a whole world out there where you can tell the world about your new website. Website design can therefore start off as simple and low-cost as you want it to be. Once your needs grow, there are numerous web designers and software packages out there to meet those needs.
