Why should you be your own boss?

1 If you don’t look after yourself and your family finically others will; at a price. The way people get wealthy is by leveraging other people’s effort and time. If you earn £500 a week you can bet your boss is earning a lot more because of your efforts. Don’t you think you are entitled to your full value for yourself?

2 You won’t sack yourself. No matter who you are no one, and I mean no one, is irreplaceable. Changes happen so fast in the business world. A lot of people who thought they had a secure job have seen it disappear overnight. Take over’s, new inventions, or a change in a company’s direction can leave you all of a sudden without an income.

3 Pay lower tax. There are only two types of people who don’t like paying tax; men and women! When you are your own boss the government recognise you have got off your backside to help yourself and create some wealth. To help you along they will help you with all sorts of tax breaks depending on what business you’re in.

4 You choose when you work. No matter how much you have earned for your company, you still have to turn up for work the next day. Unless you work in the city with one of those banking firms that give out millions in bonuses, all you’re going to get is a well done. Maybe they will give you a promotion so you can work longer hours, under more pressure and they can earn more from you. Fancy taking a couple of months off? Unless you’re the boss forget it.

5 You can sell it. If you have worked at business and built it up you can show someone how to run it and sell it on. Do you think you could do this with your job? Imagine telling your boss you have just sold you job you have worked at for 20 years foe a £100,000. Think he might have something to say?

“Great” you may say, “but what business should I start?” Well, if you search the internet there are hundreds and thousands of business ideas and opportunities. So let’s filter some of them down. Start up costs can be a problem, so we are looking at a business that you won’t have to put your house (or your parents) up to start.

We don’t want to have our money tied up in stock. Ideally we can buy stock when the customer has ordered it (and preferably when they have paid for it)

One of the biggest nightmares a business owner can have is staff. So how about a business that doesn’t have any? You just use contractors when you need them.

Starting your own business can be a challenge and it is not for everyone. You need to step right outside your comfort zone; but if you get it right the rewards can be great indeed.
