In the beginning of your business venture, you have a lot of options. In fact you have unlimited options, you can do anything. You want to do everything. But doing everything and being to general will not get you to the next level. You need to Niche, you need to get specialized knowledge and you need to develop a unique competitive edge that differentiate you from the crowd. Your unique selling proposition. (USP) The most highly paid and wealthiest business entrepreneurs are all in niche businesses (Or at least they started that way) This concentration of focus and power is the way you should start your company too. Imagine a team of 10 individuals (a small company) who focuses on doing 1 thing, extremely well. Who focuses on being the best in the industry at this one thing, who’s focus and experience is on this one thing. If you have a problem or needed that one thing done, who would you go to? Now imagine again the same group of 10 individuals, who tries to do everything. “We do it all!”. Who would go to them? Where is there specialized knowledge? Is it easier to be great at many things or to do use one thing really well? I’m sure you had the experience of buying one of those “All-in-One” appliances. Like a coffee making + blender + can opener. Or you bought a electronics product, that is both a VCR+DVD+TV. You would notice that it does everything, except it does everything poorly! If you have a TV that’s just a TV it’ll blow the DVD+TV+speakers+VCR combo out of the window! This is the power of focus, this is the power of specialization. It’s the rule of nature. A fish can swim faster then a human, because a fish concentrated on swimming. A person however can think better then a fish, so that is our advantage. Do one thing well, get known for it, make sure that one thing is in the demand, and go sell the hell out of it. That’s how you get successful in any venture.
