The main part of your business is in fact your website and whether you have a shop in the middle of the high street or it is a total online business your website is what really represents your company. People can not see you physically sitting behind the computer but like a worker in a shop you would expect them to dress smart and neat. This is equally where a good website design comes into action as it is the make or break for your company. If you were to be running a business which would involve a sales representative to go to someone’s house in order to sell a product, would you keep them employed if they were to be dressed in a shabby uniform? Or would you keep someone employed who wears a nice smart suit and shoes and cares about the way they look professionally? If someone looks smart then you are telling your customers that you care about your company and the quality of it. First impressions are what count! This is the main reason your website design should be good and attractive. Which does your site represent? The shabby looking man or the smart dressed man who cares about his appearance? Take some time out and ask yourself, does my site look professional and would I stay on this site longer than 5 minutes myself, because after all it is the first impressions that count so you need to keep your visitors on the site and make them believe you spend time in your business and you do care for your quality. You do not need to go over the top with your design and make your website out to be something that it is not; it should be relevant to your website and a unique design that suggests the right professional look for your website. You should give a sense of professionalism and your customers and visitors should realise that business means business and you are not a 5 minute quick business looking to take the money out of people’s wallets without giving anything in return. Everything on your site should be represented in the same professional style for example the same professional look from your website should be used with your business cards, brochures and letters. Think of a company logo, a professional company for example ‘Apple’ or ‘Microsoft’, well they designed their logos purposely to be professional for their companies and if you are walking down the street now and you see the Apple or Microsoft logo you would automatically know what company they represent. You should design the same professional website in a way which would give people the ability to look at it randomly one day and be able to link it with your company, and without making it over the top it should be just right for your site.
