In a recent article from the Denver Post, the heading says “Optimism Taking Hold”. In the body of the article was a quote by an economist declaring: “The great recession is no more.” Unemployment claims are lower, the Stock market is going up and even auto registrations have moved up. What about business start ups?
Yes, business start ups are still happening. Individual taxpayers e-filed almost 90 million tax returns during 2008, an increase of more than 12 percent over the prior year. Of the 155 million tax returns filed, about 58 percent were filed electronically. Business accounts being opened at banks are showing an increase. The number of business accounts opened in March 2009 showed an increase of over 5% from the same period in 2008. This shows that despite the recession, people are continuing to open their own businesses.
The figures support theories that, as people lose their jobs in a recession, they turn to self-employment as an alternative.
The economic slump has not been as bad as some of the ones in the past. There is still growth in some sectors of our economy. My best advise is to find a business or franchise that appeals to the needs of today.

4. Car Repairs
5. Handyman Services
6. Internet Marketing
