I have been thinking about those people who are dissatisfied with their current working situation but are not sure what they should do about it. Is there an entrepreneurial giant within them waiting to be released? Maybe. Maybe not. But probably. The dissatisfaction is likely the first clue, because those who do not want more are not dissatisfied with what they currently have. The book, A Peacock in a Land of Penguins (Hateley & Schmidt), is designed to teach us how to incorporate more creativity and/or diversity into our work environments. However, when I read the book, I thought about how the indicators of a creative mind mirror those of an entrepreneurial mind! I remind myself of Melanie Griffith’s character in the movie, Working Girl, when she combined seemingly disparate concepts to come up with the idea for Trask Industries to buy that radio station! If you don’t know what I’m talking about pretend you are old enough to remember that movie, ok? (But I digress…) Ask yourself these questions about how you may feel in your current work environment:
Depending on how you answered these questions, the book asserts you can determine how well you fit into your current organization. If you answered yes to 6+ of these questions, you are definitely a peacock in your organization and may be experiencing some discomfort as a result. On the other hand, if you answered yes to 3 or fewer questions you are probably a good fit in your current organization and pretty satisfied with the status quo. If your number of yes answers fell somewhere in the middle, you have good and bad days but you probably generally like your situation even if you wish you could make some changes. According to Mary Lou Cook, “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” Creativity can also be defined as the ability to generate new ideas and solutions to problems and challenges. Isn’t that what network marketers do? We experiment, take risks, make mistakes, have fun, and above all else, solve problems. So being a network marketer = being creative! I love math. Based on these thoughts and questions, if you have determined that you are too creative for your current work environment, take a look at these questions to determine your possible fitness for a more creative or entrepreneurial environment:
If you answered yes to the majority of these questions, congratulations! You are well suited to a more creative endeavor and would probably enjoy owning your own network marketing business. Blackberry calls people like you the ‘go-getters’ and the ‘make-happeners’. While you are figuring out what opportunity might enable you to embrace your inner peacock, look for opportunities to be more creative in your current situation. But carve out time each day to think about what your ideal business would look like, and then invest in yourself to discover that opportunity and get started! Do you want to help people build wealth, improve their health, travel the world, be more beautiful? Begin now. I hope you are planning a POWERFUL day! Allegra Allegra Sinclair
