If you are looking to start a business and you want to know exactly what it will take to get there and become successful, then the 10,000 formula is for you. This is not a scientifically proven fact, but a guideline benchmark for success. Read on to find out what it takes to be successful at anything and why you shouldn’t become discouraged so quickly if you are just starting out. I do not claim to have invented this, but I have seen it in multiple sources so I know there is at least some merit to what I am about to say. The formula goes like this: It takes AT LEAST 10,000 hours of work on something in order for it to break through and become a real blockbuster success. Sure you can open up a lemonade stand or a yard sale in just a few hours. You can put up an old lamp on eBay or walk someone’s dog with little marketing, but true, blockbuster success does not come until you have really put in your time. Let’s see how 10,000 hours really breaks down: I will give you 8 hours per day of work on your business, that’s 8 actual hours of work, not just thinking about working on it. Most people will never get this close. I will give another conservative measure of 2 hours per day on the business. If you were really an absolute animal and you could sustain 8 hours of work, skipping the weekends, it would take you almost 5 years to clock this many hours on your project. If you took the more conservative route of 2 hours per day, that brings you up to around 19 years of service to your project before you became a rock star. If you really slouched around and didn’t take it seriously, only applying 1 hour a day it will take you most of your working life, at 38 years. This is the reason that not every business will make it. This is also the reason why the people that look like superheroes seem to make it overnight. It’s just that the superheroes worked their tails off. They skipped TV, vacations, and most other normal life events, getting their 10,000 hours in just a few years. The point is that you have to earn it and that you have to get your hours in somehow. What’s your plan? Are you in or out blockbuster success?
