You Only Need to Be Good at TWO Things

With the current “changes” in the economic picture more and more people are searching either by choice or necessity for additional income or for a new start. The idea of creating a business or opening a shop can be overwhelming. What with the need to have the basics covered such as license, bookkeeping, location and advertising they forget what they really already know and run scared before they even start!

Your poor brain can only handle so much and if you got burned out with the old job that you had when you were only doing “your” job.. and there were other folk doing their jobs to keep the enterprise afloat what makes you think that now you are going to be able to do it all.. the talent, the books, the advertising, the floors… Give yourself a break!!

There are only TWO things that you need to be sure of in order to be truly successful with a new business.

* Before you jump decide if you REALLY love to do what it is that you are considering or if you are doing it because you could make a “boatload” of money quickly. If it is the latter keep searching because before the boatload of money is the 23hr days of getting it all in place and if you don’t really love it you are going to throw in the towel. Make sure there’s water in the swimming pool and that you can swim before you dive in.

And…..

* You only need to be good at TWO things:

1. ONE type of product or service that is needed by your potential customers

2. ONE way of letting them know and buy your product or service.

There are dozens products and services that you could offer and just because you see 10 people offering them does not mean that you will be good at them.. Find the ONE thing that you enjoy immensely and offer that. Create around that. If you are doing ONE thing well as an expert the rest will fall into place!!

There are dozens of ways of finding customers. If you use the shotgun effect to find them you are likely to find few if any takers. Concentrate your dollars and effort in one place and shine there.

When I started my business I realized this “I am really good at two things: Creating product that is useful and of value from virtually nothing and displaying and marketing that product in a way that is appealing to potential customers. And those two things were enough. Everything else eventually took care of itself.”

You can simplify your life. Chances are you are thinking that you have to pay attention to TOO MANY things. Doing so because you’re afraid you’re going to miss the magical technique that’s gonna make you a mint.

Forget that. Just get good at TWO things. Totally master two things that you know can work for you and that you can do well day after day with ease.

One type of product and one way of spreading the word.

Let’s say that talking to people makes you crazy and that you can’t even figure what part of the table is the top… sales is not your niche. However if you love to sit at your workbench day after day and create beautiful things then do that and let someone else sell them for you!!!

Don’t fight your nature. Harmonize with it.

Spend your time doing what brings you joy and peace. Only do what you enjoy and pay someone else to do the things that are not on your JOY list. Chances are they enjoy doing those things! Your time is valuable. Treat it like it’s worth $1000 an hour and someday it will be.

I challenge you - Today: look over your days to do list and find the things that you really don’t like to do and that you really could delegate and find someone else to do them. Do it RIGHT NOW. Get rid of the distractions and FOCUS.

You only need two things to be successful: ONE type of product or service and ONE way of letting people know about it.. It’s simple, it’s beautiful, and when you focus, your business works.
